15 Minute Crispy Shrimp Taco Recipe

A couple of weeks ago, I joined the Foodbeast team for a “Foodie Day in San Diego”.  I was so excited to see that they had picked some of my favorite local spots to visit, like Basic Pizza and Puesto for tacos!

It was on that fateful Friday that I tried Puesto’s crispy shrimp tacos for the first time and fell in love!

I went home and immediately created a similar recipe that’s made in only 15 minutes!

Crispy Shrimp Tacos with Chipotle BBQ Sauce

The crispy shrimp is lightly pan fried in coconut oil giving it a nice crispiness with just a touch of sweetness, the chipotle BBQ sauce is both sweet and spicy, perfect for topping off these deliciously simple shrimp tacos!

Crispy Shrimp Taco Recipe Ingredients

Crispy Shrimp Tacos Ingredients

  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • 1 lb shrimp (peeled & deveined, tails removed)
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 2 eggs (whisked)
  • ¾ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 8 small corn tortillas
  • 2 avocados (sliced)
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro

Chipotle BBQ Sauce Ingredients

  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 3 tbsp lime juice
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 clove garlic (crushed)
  • 1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce
  • 1 tsp adobo sauce (from the can of chipotle peppers in adobo)

Chipotle BBQ Sauce Instructions

Prepare the chipotle BBQ sauce by blending all of the ingredients together in a blender or food processor until smooth.

Crispy Shrimp Tacos Instructions

Heat the coconut oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.

Place the flour, whisked eggs and breadcrumbs in three separate shallow bowls.

Crispy Shrimp Taco Recipe

Dredge the shrimp in the flour, then dip in the egg, drip off any excess egg, then coat the shrimp in the breadcrumbs.

Once the oil is hot, add the shrimp and cook for 1-2 minutes per side.

Remove the shrimp and place on a paper towel to drain any grease.

Place a few slices of avocado on each tortilla, top with 2-3 pieces of crispy shrimp, a drizzle of chipotle bbq sauce and fresh cilantro.
