Jalapeno Popper Pigs in a Blanket on a Green Plate with Ranch Dressing

One of my favorite things to do when creating new recipes is to combine two favorite dishes into one amazing new dish!

I was inspired to make this recipe after seeing something similar on a menu in Washington DC at Fat Pete’s BBQ. Their version featured jalapenos, stuffed with cream cheese, topped with a little smokie, then wrapped in bacon.

I decided to go more traditional with my pigs in a blanket and wrap the entire thing in crescent rolls, but I have no doubt that bacon would also be an amazing choice!

The real debate was what to call this little appetizer, the best idea I heard from friends was “Pigs in a Popper”, so cute and perfect for this appetizer mash-up!

How do you make pigs in a blanket?

Pigs in a blanket are made by wrapping little smokies in crescent rolls and baking in the oven at 350 degrees for 11-15 minutes.

In this updated mash-up version, jalapenos are de-stemmed and seeded, sliced in half lengthwise and roasted in the oven for 10 minutes. The jalapenos are then filled with a combination of cream cheese and cheddar cheese, with a little smokey on top.

Each slice of crescent roll dough is sliced in half then wrapped around the “pig in a popper”.

The jalapeno popper pigs in a blanket are placed on a baking sheet and into the oven to bake for 15 minutes.

What sauce goes with pigs in a blanket?

Ranch dressing goes great with these Pigs in a Blanket. For an extra kick, try jalapeno ranch dressing!

Missing the bacon around the jalapeno poppers? Dip these babies in bacon jam for a seriously good time!

Can pigs in a blanket be reheated?

Yes! To reheat pigs in a blanket, turn the oven broiler on to low and place the pigs in blanket on a baking sheet on the middle rack of the oven for 5 minutes.

Using this method to reheat them will keep the texture of the crescent rolls similar to when they were first baked, more so then heating them up in the microwave which can result in a soggy texture.
