I’m sharing my secret for the easiest way to cook a whole oven roasted turkey, plus how to make an easy maple apple reduction to go with it!

How do you make an apple reduction?

Add apple cider and apple cider vinegar to a small pot over high heat, simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the liquid has reduced down by half. Reduce the heat to low and stir in maple syrup and salt. Simmer for an additional 3-5 minutes. Remove from the heat and serve.

How do you cook the perfect turkey in the oven?

Jennie-O’s Oven Ready Turkey is the perfect, easy, fool-proof way to cook a turkey in the oven. It’s pre-seasoned and takes about 2 minutes to prep before going in the oven!

Simply remove the whole turkey from the outer package. The turkey will be in a cooking bag, leave it in the bag and place it in a roasting pan. Cut six ½ inch slits in the top of the roasting bag, pull the cooking bag up and away from the turkey. Place the turkey in the oven for 3-4 hours. Check the temperature with a meat thermometer after 3 hours. The turkey is ready when it reaches 165°F in the breast and 180°F in the thigh.

Remove the turkey from the oven when it reaches the proper temperature and allow to rest in the cooking bag for 15 minutes, before opening and removing the turkey to slice.

Do I have to thaw the turkey before cooking it?

No! That’s another great thing about Jennie-O Oven Ready Turkey’s is that you can take them straight from the freezer to the oven!

Do I put water in the bottom of the roaster for the turkey?

No, you do not need to add any water to the roasting pan. Water in the bottom of the pan can actually steam burn the turkey. The turkey will produce it’s own delicious juices that you can then use to make gravy or leftover turkey soup!

What sauce is traditionally served with turkey?

While gravy and cranberry sauce are traditionally served with turkey, I love to give my Thanksgiving dinner guests options, which is why I came up with this Maple Apple Reduction!

Oven Roasted Turkey with Maple Apple Reduction

Apple reduction is made by reducing apple cider and maple syrup into a delicious sauce, perfect for serving over oven roasted turkey!

Ingredients

Oven Roasted Turkey

  • 10-13 lb Jennie-O Oven Ready Whole Turkey

Maple Apple Reduction

  • 1 ½ cups apple cider
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • ½ tsp kosher salt

Instructions

Oven Roasted Turkey

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • Remove the turkey from the outer packaging, but leave in the cooking bag and place in a roasting pan with at least 2 inch high sides.
  • Cut 6 small slits in the top of the cooking bag and pull the bag away from the turkey.
  • Place in the oven for 3 - 4 hours, or until a meat thermometer reaches 165°F in the breast and 180°F in the thigh.
  • Let the turkey rest 15 minutes in the cooking bag.
  • Cut open the cooking bag, remove the turkey and slice.

Maple Apple Reduction

  • Add the apple cider and apple cider vinegar to a small pot on the stove over high heat.
  • Once reduced by half, stir in the maple syrup and salt, reduce the heat to low.
  • Simmer for 3-5 minutes, remove from the heat and serve.
