These pizza rolls are loaded with cheese and pepperonis, but feel free to add your favorite pizza toppings to make them your own!
Every Friday is pizza night at our house and it’s one of my favorite nights of the week. We’re big fans of pizza in every shape, size and flavor! When it comes to hosting friends for a party or watching football on the weekends, these pizza rolls are the perfect snack. They’re handheld, delicious and so easy to make!
Simply roll out your favorite pizza dough (homemade or store bought), then add marinara sauce, cheese and any of your favorite pizza toppings. Roll it up, slice it up, then bake it up for a tasty appetizer, snack or meal. We’re definitely not above eating an entire tray of these pepperoni pizza rolls for dinner at our house!
You can bake them in the oven, or pop them in the air fryer. Either way, you’ve got pizza rolls on the table in less than 30 minutes!

Ingredients you’ll need
- Pizza dough – store bought or homemade pizza dough will both work for this recipe. You’ll want approximately one pound of pizza dough, rolled out into a rectangle. When I’m looking for something super quick and easy, my go-to is the Pillsbury pizza crust that you see pictured throughout this post. Simply roll it out of the can and you’re ready to go!
- Marinara sauce – store bought or homemade will also work for the sauce. Grab this delicious marinara sauce recipe, make extra and freeze it, so you’ll always have it on hand to use on pizza rolls or toss with pasta!
- Mozzarella cheese
- Parmesan cheese
- Italian seasoning – I always prefer to use my homemade seasoning blend (linked to the left), but you can also purchase a pre-made seasoning mix at the grocery store.
- Mini pepperonis – these cute little pepperonis are an optional addition. I find that they make a great addition to these simple pizza rolls, but if you have another favorite pizza topping, feel free to swap it in for the pepperonis.
Step by step instructions
- Add the ingredients to the pizza dough.
- Roll out the pizza dough onto a large cutting board.
- Spread the marinara sauce on the pizza dough, leaving a 1 inch border around the edge of the dough.
- Top with the mozzarella and parmesan cheeses.
- Sprinkle the Italian seasoning over the cheese.
- Add the pepperonis, or the pizza toppings of your choice.
- Roll up the pizza dough.
- Roll the dough tightly up and over the toppings, just like you would if you were making cinnamon rolls.
- Slice the pizza roll.
- Slice the rolled up pizza dough into 1 inch sections, this should make 12 rolls.
- Place the rolls touching in an oven safe dish. The dish I’m using is 10 ½ inches in diameter. A pie plate or oven-safe skillet would also work great for this recipe.
- Bake the pizza rolls.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Place the rolls in the oven and bake for 20 minutes.
- Serve warm with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
How to make them in an air fryer
Instead of baking the pizza rolls, feel free to pop them in an air fryer at 330°F for 12 minutes. I have the Cosori 5.8 Quart Air Fryer and this time and temperature worked perfect for me. All air fryer brands are slightly different, so you may have to adjust the time up or down by a couple of minutes.
The pizza rolls can be baked or cooked in the air fryer, either touching in the pan, as seen throughout the post, or separated, as seen above in the air fryer image. If the pizza rolls are cooked separated, using either method, the rolls will be slightly crispy on the outside, as you can see in the picture above.
If the rolls are cooked touching in a pan, or the air fryer, they will be softer. Either method gives you delicious pizza rolls, it’s just a matter of personal preference, whether you prefer a slightly crispy exterior or a softer roll.
Other topping ideas
Pizza rolls are just what they sound like, it’s a rolled up pizza. So basically anything you can put on a pizza, you can put in a pizza roll. Just don’t go too crazy with a lot of toppings or it will be really hard to roll up the pizza. I recommend sticking with 1/4 – 1/2 cup toppings, but feel free to mix and match them.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Spinach
- Black olives
- Sliced mushrooms
- Sliced jalapenos
- Diced bell pepper
- Diced onion
- Basil leaves
- Ham
- Salami
- Bacon
- Canadian bacon
- Sausage
Tips and tricks
- To make vegetarian pizza rolls, omit the pepperoni. Simply make cheesy pizza rolls, or add one of the vegetable options above, like peppers or mushrooms.
- Leftover pizza rolls will stay good in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat the pizza rolls in the microwave, oven or air fryer.
- To reheat them in the microwave, place them on a microwave-safe plate and microwave for 30-60 seconds.
- To reheat them in the oven, place them on a baking sheet and into a 400°F oven for 5-7 minutes. Alternatively, you can place them under the broiler in the oven for 2-3 minutes, for a crispier reheated roll.
- To reheat them in the air fryer, place them in an air fryer, set at 330°F for 3 minutes.
