Table of contents
Ingredients
- Pork sausage – you’ll want loose sausage. Mild or hot will both work for this recipe, depending on your spice preference.
- Butter
- Celery
- Red onion
- Garlic cloves
- Fresh sage
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Stuffing – any bagged or boxed stuffing mix will work for this recipe. Unfortunately King’s Hawaiian no longer makes the bagged stuffing you see pictured in this post. Pepperidge Farm makes a great Herb Seasoned Stuffing that’s available online or in some major grocery stores.
- Eggs
- Chicken broth
Step by step instructions
- Cook the sausage in a large skillet on the stove over medium heat. Once the sausage is cooked through, remove the skillet from the stove, drain any grease, then place the cooked sausage in a large mixing bowl.
- Cook the veggies. Add the butter to the same pan you cooked the sausage. After the butter has melted, add the celery and onion. Cook for 4-5 minutes.
- Season. Add crushed garlic, salt, pepper and sage to the skillet with the veggies and cook for 1-2 minutes. Transfer the veggies to the bowl with the sausage.
- Prepare the stuffing. Add the bag of stuffing, eggs and chicken broth to the bowl with the sausage and veggies. Toss lightly to combine all of the ingredients.
- Fill the pan. Coat the inside of a bundt pan with cooking spray then press the sausage stuffing in the pan.
- Bake. Place in a preheated 400°F oven uncovered for 30-40 minutes.
- Serve. After removing the stuffing from the oven, let it rest for at least 10 minutes. Flip the bundt pan over onto a cutting board to remove the stuffing from the pan. Slice and dig in!
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to grease a nonstick bundt pan? It is highly recommended to grease any bundt pan to ensure everything comes out in one piece. Cooking spray is the best option for this, as it will evenly coat the pan.
- Is stuffing better with or without eggs? Stuffing, this recipe in particular, is definitely better when eggs are added. It helps to bind everything together and makes the texture light and fluffy.
- How do you know when stuffing is done? Bake your stuffing until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- What is the difference between dressing and stuffing? Dressing is cooked outside of a turkey, while stuffing is cooked inside the turkey. So technically this is Sausage Dressing, not stuffing, but I won’t tell if you won’t!

This recipe is awesome. I added a handful of rehydrated cranberries and chopped walnuts. So delicious.
Woohoo! Those sound like great additions Rosie, thanks for sharing!
Wish this were “new”. My parents are Hungarian immigrants who came to the US 50 years ago and this has been a Thanksgiving tradition since they first arrived. I jmean t received my first Bundt pan as a wedding gift so I can keep the tradition going. It’s a hit each time my “American” friends and now extended family has it. It’s truly a ” why didn’t we think about this sooner?” Moment. Plus, it’s perfect for leftover sandwiches.
